PVTA HONORS EMPLOYEES

The Potomac Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) held its annual awards banquet Saturday, October 25th at the South Branch Inn in Romney.  The awards ceremony is held each year to celebrate the performance of PVTA employees.

David Paugh, Augusta, was named the Potomac Valley Transit Authority’s  2008 Driver of the Year.  Paugh, a PVTA operator since 2003, currently operates a route from Wiley Ford to Moorefield serving people employed at Pilgrim’s Pride Foods.  In announcing the award, PVTA General Manager J. Carter cited Paugh’s dedication to safety as a major reason for the recognition.  Carter said, “David does his job well and always thinks about things that can be done better.”

Kathy Smith, Maysville, received the 2008 Employee of the Year Award.  This award is given to a non-operating employee for exceptional service.  Smith’s primary duties include non-emergency medical transportation scheduling and schedule information.  “Kathy is one of those rare people who have the ability to raise the spirits of everyone around her.  Add in the fact that Kathy does her job very well and we have a person very deserving of this award,” Carter commented.

Juanita Lloyd and Viola Porter were given thirty year service awards and a number of drivers were recognized for safe driving.  In all, twenty PVTA safe driving and service awards were presented along with awards from the WV Division of Public Transit.
