PVTA HONORS FORMER MAYOR HICKS
Former Mayor William Hicks was recently recognized by the Potomac Valley Transit Authority Board of Directors for his long service as a member representing the City of Romney. He was recently presented a plaque at his home in honor of that service.
Originally appointed in 1992, Mayor Hicks served as a member until June 30, 2010. He served as Vice President of the Board.
During his tenure at PVTA many improvements were made. Service was expanded to include several work routes transporting local residents to jobs at Rubbermaid in Winchester, Virginia and Pilgrim’s Pride in Moorefield. Non-Emergency Medical Transportation was added in 2001 and has grown to be one of the biggest services provided by PVTA. During his tenure there were also two constructions projects with the Operations Facility built in 1996 and an addition to that facility completed in 2006.
PVTA Board President Lee Thompson said, “We will miss Mayor Hicks. His wisdom and friendship cannot be replaced. We wish him well.”
