Welcome to the Potomac Valley Transit Authority

Formed in 1977, Potomac Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) provides deviated fixed route and demand response public transportation services to residents throughout Hampshire, Hardy, Grant, Mineral and Pendleton Counties. PVTA seeks to improve the quality of life for its riders by offering safe, convenient and affordable public transportation services.

What is Ready-Ride?

Our trained driver will come in a PVTA van and take you to and from your home, school, doctors’ appointment, or store.

Petersburg Ready Ride - is a local transportation service designed for the citizens of the immediate Petersburg area.

How do I ride the bus?

Please know what time the bus arrives at your stop and plan to be at the stop location at least five (5) minutes prior to the scheduled time for the bus to arrive. Buses can run a few minutes late or early depending on weather, traffic, and other factors. Read more about the fares on the Fares and Passes page..

How much is the fare?

Ready Ride Fare - $2.00/rider
Seniors (62+) – 50% off Regular Fare (Excludes Ready Ride)
Persons with Disabilities* – 50% off Regular Fare (Excludes Ready Ride)
Children Ages 6-12 – 50% off Regular Fare (Excludes Ready Ride)
Children Under 6 – FREE

Do you offer non-emergency medical transportation?

PVTA provides non-emergency medical transportation service to facilities throughout our 5-county operating area (Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, and Pendleton Counties). PVTA also serves Elkins, Morgantown, and facilities located in Maryland and Virginia.

This service is designed to provide transportation to your doctor’s office, hospital, dentist and other kinds of medical facilities.

What is route deviation service?

PVTA provides a route deviation service on regular route services. We will pick you up and drop you off at locations within three-fourths of a mile of the regular route. Reserve a pickup by the end of the business day prior to the day you wish to travel. Business hours are 5:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If the PVTA office is closed, you can make a request for route deviation service by leaving a message on our telephone system. If you choose to leave a message, please be specific on the deviation service you want us to provide and give us contact information in your message including your name and phone number. Request a drop-off from the driver.

  • New Routes

    Thursday January 29, 2026

    PVTA has expanded its service.  We have opened three new routes.  Route 106 provides service between the Davis/Thomas area to Oakland on Tuesdays.  Route 107 services Davis/Thomas to Elkins on Fridays.  Route 108 provides service through Short Gap, Fort Ashby to the Keyser Hospital/Walmart.  These routes are great to get your weekly shopping in.  Call us today to book a trip!
