Fare Changes

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Potomac Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) is proposing to increase fares for bus services provided throughout our operating area effective March 4, 2024.  Under the current fare schedule deviated fixed route PVTA passengers pay a boarding fee of $1.25 which covers the first five miles of transportation.  After the first five miles, the additional fare is calculated at a rate of 7 cents per mile.  The new plan calls for a Zone Fare structure with a boarding fee of $2.00 and $1.00 for each zone traveled. Ready R!de would increase from the current $1.50 to $2.00 for each boarding. Discounts currently offered to senior citizens and disabled individuals will continue for deviated fixed routes.

Prior to instituting this increase, PVTA is requesting comments from our riders and the public.  Written comments can be sent to PVTA at 185 Providence Lane, Petersburg, WV  26847.  Comments must be received by January 31, 2024.

PVTA will also hold a public hearing concerning the fare increase in the following location:

  1. January 15, 2024, 2pm to 3pm at the PVTA Operation Facility at located at 185 Providence Lane Petersburg WV 26847.
  2.  January 16, 2024, 10am to 11am in Keyser at PHG 3334 New Creek Hwy, New Creek, WV 26743
  3. January 17, 2024, 10am to 11am in Moorefield at PHG 79 Robert C Byrd Industrial Park, Moorefield, WV 26836
  4. January 17, 2024, 2pm to 3pm in Romney at PHG 53 W Main St, Romney WV 26757

Interested parties are invited to attend one of the above hearings to offer input concerning the proposal.

Region 8 is currently updating the county's Hazard Mitigation Plan, with an overall goal of reducing the vulnerabilities and impacts of natural disasters. This survey is an effort to include public participation in the plan update process, which is now required for state and federal plan approval. Please help us out by taking this short 10-minute survey. There are no right or wrong answers. All responses are completely anonymous.  Would you please share the link on your website and as much as possible on your bus routes etc? This public survey can be completed by anyone that resides in Region 8 (i.e., Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Pendleton Counties).

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Potomac Valley Transit Authority 185 Providence Ln., Petersburg, WV 26847, is applying for a grant under 49 USC Section 5311. A general Description of the grant proposal follows:

DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT

49 USC Section 5311 funding is being sought to continue transportation services in Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral and Pendleton Counties. These services are provided for the general public and the special needs of the elderly and disabled. The estimated cost of providing these services for fiscal year 2023 is $2,343,642 with $740,821 coming from federal sources, $281,821 coming from state sources, $459,000 from local sources and $862,000 coming from operating revenues.

No persons, families, or businesses will be displaced by this project. The proposed project will not have a significant environmental impact upon the service area.

Service to the elderly and the disabled will be provided on all PVTA routes. Individuals unable to board vehicles along regular routes may receive service up to three quarters of a mile off route with a request made the day before service is to be provided. Elderly and disabled individuals are also eligible for reduced fares on many PVTA routes. Specially equipped vehicles, alternate format schedules, a TDD, and route deviation service have been put in to place to address the needs of disabled riders, as required by ADA.

As prescribed by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, no person shall, on the grounds of race, color or national origin be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under its program of transit service delivery and related benefits. If translation services of any type, written or oral, are needed, please contact the Potomac Valley Transit Authority.

Should any 49 USC Section 5311 capital funds become available, purchased equipment may include, but not be limited to: buses, vans, or other paratransit vehicles, radios and communications equipment, passenger shelters, wheelchair lifts and restraints, computer hardware/software, spare parts or components, and other durable goods. Persons interested in

holding a public hearing regarding the possible procurement of capital equipment must submit a written request within 15 days from the date of this notice.

The purpose of this notice is to afford affected citizens, private transportation providers, and other interested agencies an early opportunity to examine the proposal and offer comments and/or recommendations on the overall scope of the project. The grant proposal will be available for public inspection and comment for 15 days from the date of this notice, February 9, 2022, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the office of the Potomac Valley Transit Authority.

PVTA is monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and will act in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.

Our drivers follow best practices to keep our riders and the bus environment safe by spraying and wiping surfaces on a regular basis. We want to remind passengers about the CDC (Center for Disease Control)- recommended precautions to prevent the spread of illnesses:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after riding public transit. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid eating and drinking while onboard.
  • Do not cough into your hands. Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
